Calculation: Award calculated based on student's resident district Average Number Belonging (ANB) formula under Montana BASE aid system. Elementary students: $5,000-$6,000 annually. High school students: $6,400-$8,000 annually. Amount varies by IEP requirements and resident district. Final amount reduced 5% for administrative costs. Adjusts annually with state school funding.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

1. Verify student eligibility: IEP with IDEA disability, ages 5-19 (as of Sept 10), Montana resident, counted for ANB funding previous year. 2. Review Parent Handbook and Allowable Expenses list on OPI website. 3. During application window (May 1-June 1 OR Nov 1-Dec 1), access online application at opi.mt.gov ESA page OR request paper application. 4. Gather required documents: IEP documentation, proof of Montana residency, student birth certificate, ANB funding verification. 5. Complete and submit application during window. 6. If approved, receive ESA account notification. 7. Purchase approved educational expenses. 8. Submit receipts via Reimbursement Request Form to OPIESA@mt.gov. 9. Receive reimbursement after OPI review.

Attendance Requirements

Reporting Requirements

Renewal Process

Trial court litigation ongoing.
